Supporting MSME Actors, Malang City Launches Sahabat UMKM

Malang City – The Malang City Government through the Malang City Cooperative, Industry and Trade Office (Diskopindag) launched the ‘Sahabat UMKM’ program at the Malang Creative Center (MCC) building, Friday (28/6/2024). Members of Sahabat UMKM are not only from related regional apparatus, but also sub-district heads and village heads so that various matters related to MSMEs can be accommodated properly.

Acting Mayor of Malang Dr. Ir. Wahyu Hidayat, MM, after launching ‘Sahabat UMKM’ hopes that with this program MSME actors can improve, penetrate the global market and be more competitive. “All problems faced by MSMEs such as funding, branding and marketing, will be assisted as much as possible,” he said.

In addition, the number one person in Malang City Government said that Sahabat UMKM will also look for and accommodate residents who are just starting a business, so that they can be fostered and assisted in order to become tough and competitive MSME actors. “Currently there are around 21 thousand MSMEs that have been curated, and over time it will certainly continue to grow,” Wahyu added.

Another reason why this program was launched is because MSME actors are the biggest supporters of the community’s economy, and have proven to have resilience and they’ve shown up with toughness and aren’t so affected by downturns. Similar to what happened during the Covid-19 Pandemic some time ago, MSME players were barely affected and still managed to make it through.

“Several times I came directly to the place of MSME actors to ensure this, and the results were as expected. So that in the future various programs will be implemented to strengthen the existence of these MSME players, both directly and indirectly. Such as intensifying training, assisting with brand management and marketing,” he explained.

He added that, in the future, various elements, such as urban village and sub-district heads will play an active role. Those who encounter difficulties in operating their business will receive the best possible assistance. “With integrated togetherness, we are optimistic that what we have planned will be well realized,” Wahyu concluded.
